Ligularia przewalskii: The architectural perennial with golden spikes
Known also as Przewalski's Ligularia , Ligularia przewalskii is a remarkable shade or semi-shade perennial with its deeply cut foliage and long golden spike flowers . Elegant, structuring, and exotic in appearance, it brings verticality and light to cool beds or waterside areas. Its slender habit and decorative foliage make it a key plant for creating natural and harmonious scenes in shaded gardens.
Architectural foliage and dazzling blooms
Ligularia przewalskii forms a dense clump of dark green palmate leaves , deeply lobed and borne on long purple stems. From early summer, it displays tall, upright spikes of golden yellow flowers , reaching 1.2 to 1.5 m in height . These flower stalks bring a vertical and luminous touch among the dense foliage of hostas, astilbes, and ferns. Even after flowering, its foliage remains decorative and elegantly structures the space.
Cultivation and care
Easy to grow, Ligularia przewalskii thrives in rich, fresh to moist soils and partial to full shade exposures . It tolerates full sun only if the soil remains consistently moist. During hot periods, regular watering prevents its large leaves from temporarily wilting. Very hardy (down to -25 °C ), it establishes itself permanently and requires little maintenance: remove faded flower stalks and cut back the foliage at the end of the season.
