About ten years ago, Martin Lejardinier, well-known for his many YouTube videos on indoor gardening, obtained Red Robin tomato seeds in Peru. According to sources, it originated in England or the United States, but we know it was cultivated in the 19th century. Since then, by selecting the most compact and productive plants, he has obtained the Red Robin tomato, Martin Lejardinier’s lineage. The stability of the cross makes it an open-pollinated cultivar.
Indoors, for good yields, it is best to grow the Red Robin tomato, Martin Lejardinier’s lineage, under fluorescent tubes or LEDs or under sodium lamps.
This compact and determinate variety measures no more than 30 cm high and wide, and produces many scarlet cherry tomatoes. The juicy fruits, with thin skin, have a sweet and tangy taste.
Originating from plants that have always been grown indoors, this variety is particularly adapted to these conditions. However, it can be grown outdoors.
Highly disease-resistant, this tomato tolerates difficult growing conditions and requires little care.
Due to its ease of cultivation, it is also a must-have for indoor gardening beginners.
Outdoors, the Red Robin tomato, Martin Lejardinier’s lineage, prefers pots or planters. In the ground, its small size must be taken into account when arranging the vegetable garden.
This plant grows in a pot 15 to 30 cm in diameter. Pots 23 cm in diameter containing 3 to 4 liters of potting soil are ideal if you don’t want to water too often. A harvest is obtained after 70 to 90 days depending on growing conditions.
