The Fraisier Quatre Saisons (Four Seasons Strawberry) is an everbearing strawberry that offers daily harvests, starting in the first year and throughout the season. From June until the first frosts, its bright red fruits and intense fragrance brighten up vegetable gardens, borders, or balconies. Robust and generous, it adapts equally well to planting in the ground or in containers.
Features and Benefits
Continuous production: everbearing, it produces fruit from the first year and throughout the season, from early summer until the first frosts. Fruits and fragrance: medium-sized, uniformly red berries with juicy flesh and a sweet fragrance reminiscent of wild strawberries. Decorative and functional foliage: lustrous forest-green trifoliate leaves, a low and sprawling rosette that forms a dense and healthy ground cover even during periods of heavy production. Charming flowering: small white flowers with yellow centers that bloom successively throughout the season. Self-fertile pollination: a single plant can produce fruit, but several plants increase the frequency and quantity of harvests. Exposure and sugar: requires full sun (6 to 8 hours/day) to optimize production and fruit sugar content. Habit and growth: a perennial plant with a creeping and compact habit, producing runners that allow for natural propagation to form a productive carpet over the years. Soil and maintenance: rich, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic soil; straw mulch recommended to keep fruits clean and maintain moisture. Hardiness and climate: excellent Canadian hardiness (Zone 3); tolerates Quebec winters with good snow cover or protective mulching. Resistances: good general resistance to foliar diseases and leaf spots, facilitating management in organic vegetable gardens. Various uses: ideal for vegetable gardens, borders, raised beds, or hanging baskets; perfect for family gardens that want to pick fresh fruit daily. Decorative advantages: constant mix of white flowers and red fruits, providing aesthetics and color all summer long.
Cultivation and Maintenance
Soil and planting: favor rich, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic soil; incorporating straw mulch helps maintain fruit cleanliness and moisture. Exposure: favor planting in full sun to optimize flowering and production. Watering: regular watering is recommended to support growth and production throughout the season. Natural propagation: runners allow the plant to spread and form a living and productive carpet over the years. Cultivation recommendations: although self-fertile, the presence of several plants can increase the frequency and quantity of harvests.
