Brighten your garden with the Petunia Supertunia® Bordeaux™ from Proven Winners, an award-winning bestseller featuring enchanting soft plum-pink flowers with deep plum-purple veins. Renowned for its exceptional vigor, slightly mounding habit, and spreading capabilities, this petunia offers continuous and spectacular blooms from spring until the first frosts, bringing a burst of color to your containers and flowerbeds.
Features
Foliage: The foliage is green, medium-sized, forming a dense and attractive mass beneath the flowers.
Blooming: Produces medium to large-sized flowers of a soft and delicate plum-pink with deep, rich plum-purple veins. Blooming is continuous and abundant, from planting time until hard autumn frosts, with no deadheading required.
Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Requires at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sun per day for optimal performance and maximum bloom.
Habit: Its habit is slightly mounding and trailing, making it an excellent choice as a filler and spiller plant in containers. It is also very effective as a groundcover or border plant.
Growth: This is a very vigorous petunia. It reaches a height of 10 to 30 cm (4 to 12 inches) and can spread up to 46-61 cm (18-24 inches), with stems that can trail up to 91 cm (36 inches).
Humidity: Requires average humidity. Although it is drought-tolerant once established, it will perform better with regular watering, especially during intense heat.
Soil: Adapts to average fertility, well-drained soil.
Temperature: Extremely heat tolerant, but light pruning may be beneficial if nights remain very warm.
Watering: Average water needs. Once established, it tolerates drought, but regular watering is recommended, especially for potted plants.
Uses
Types of use: Ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, mixed container arrangements, flowerbed borders, as a groundcover, or for mass planting in landscapes.
Decorative advantages: Its unique pink and plum-toned flowers bring sophistication and constant brilliance. Its prolonged bloom attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, adding life and color to your outdoor space.
Care
Fertilization: An annual application of fertilizer or compost for flowerbeds, and regular fertilization (e.g., every 1 to 2 weeks) for potted plants, will ensure the best blooming performance.
Pruning: Deadheading is not necessary. You can lightly prune plants with scissors to shape them if desired, or if blooming decreases during very hot weather. This will increase branching and blooming when temperatures drop.
Planting: Space plants 30 to 61 cm (12 to 24 inches) apart to allow for good spread and optimal fill. Plant the root ball at the same level as the soil in the original container. Plant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed, when the soil has warmed up well.
